Urban Design Guidelines Update

Fairfax County is undergoing a process to update urban design guidelines for some of the County’s Commercial Revitalization Districts. The Guidelines will provide more detailed urban design and streetscape information to complement each area’s existing Comprehensive Plan. They will showcase written and visual ideas about how sidewalks and landscape areas should be detailed, how buildings should be sited, and incorporate best practices in order to help create a unique sense of place. Property owners will also use this information to help guide the design of new buildings and public areas during the rezoning process.

Baileys Crossroads and Seven Corners

The first set of guidelines to be updated are the Baileys Crossroads and Seven Corners Urban Design Guidelines. It is anticipated that they will be completed by winter 2016. A community survey and online meeting will be used to enrich the guidelines with ideas and preferences from the community.

    Community Survey
Fairfax County invited members of the public to provide feedback on urban design characteristics for Baileys Crossroads and Seven Corners so that the guidelines reflect the community’s desired character.
    Online Presentation
A video information session will be available in the fall that will provide an educational overview of the urban design guidelines and will summarize community responses from the community survey. Questions from the community can be submitted to the Office of Community Revitalization at revitalization@fairfaxcounty.gov and responses will be posted to the website.
